Common questions.
Do I need an appointment for DermNow?
No. DermNow is first-come, first-served. Walk in during DermNow hours (Tue, Wed, Fri mornings) and we'll see you. Earlier is faster — patients arriving at opening typically have the shortest wait.
Do I need a referral?
No. DermNow does not require a referral, even if your insurance plan requires one for routine dermatology. If your insurance later requires a referral for follow-up, our office will help you obtain one.
Will my insurance cover the visit?
We're in-network with the major Pittsburgh-area insurers. The visit is billed like a normal dermatology evaluation. Your copay, deductible, and coinsurance depend on your specific plan. If you're unsure, call us at (412) 659-0599 before you come in.
What if I don't have insurance?
Cash pay is $150 for the base visit. Procedures performed during the visit (biopsy or simple lesion removal: $150; cyst or acne injection: $75) are billed separately. Pay at the time of service. See cash pay details.
What ages does DermNow see?
Ages 1 and up. Infants under 1 year old should be seen by scheduled appointment — call (412) 659-0599 to book.
What if it's not a DermNow day?
Call us at (412) 659-0599. We hold same-day slots when the schedule allows; if no slot is available, we'll get you in as soon as possible.
What should I bring?
Photo ID, insurance card if applicable, a list of your medications, photos of the rash or spot if it has changed since onset, and any prior dermatology records you can access.
How long is the wait?
Variable. First-come, first-served means morning waits are shortest. We see DermNow patients alongside the regular schedule, so wait time depends on volume on the day.
Can I get prescriptions filled at DermNow?
Yes. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy before you leave. For controlled substances, the same e-prescribing applies.
Do you accept telehealth for DermNow?
Not at present. DermNow is in-person only — a dermatologic exam requires looking at the skin in person.
What if I came in for a rash but you find something else?
If we notice something during your visit that needs evaluation, we'll discuss it with you and either address it on the spot or schedule a follow-up — whichever is medically appropriate.
Do you treat cosmetic concerns at DermNow?
No. DermNow is for medical and surgical concerns. For cosmetic dermatology, book a regular appointment — or for the full cosmetic menu, visit our cosmetic practice Esvie Medical Spa, in the same office.
